The Classic Concert will begin with the Touring Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Julian Ackerley,
performing traditional boychoir music representing a wide range of repertoire. Included will
be movements from Stabat Mater by Baroque composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. The achingly
beautiful setting of the 13th century Latin text is Pergolesi's most notable sacred work. It
meditates on the suffering of Mary at the crucifixion and is appropriate for performance in
the venue of Our Mother of Sorrows Church.
Also featured in the first half will be premieres of Lilies of the Field and The Seabird, two compositions by
Tucson composer Rob Resetar who will be a special guest.
The tenors and basses from the Young Men's Ensemble will be performing several selections then joining the treble boy
voices. The combined singers will continue the Baroque music with J.S. Bach's chorale cantata Christ lag in Todesbanden.
Introduced by an instrumental Sinfonia, the cantata depicts
an Easter theme with seven stanzas set in seven different vocal movements.
To conclude the concert, all members of the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus, including the younger Training Chorus and
TowneSingers, will join their voices in gran finale. Tickets for the concert are $15.00 each and are
available at the Boys Chorus office and at the door.
